JetBlue Baggage Fees Reach $70 Ahead of Thanksgiving

JetBlue raised checked-bag fees on November 3, 2026. A first suitcase now costs $50 to $70 on many routes, depending on peak dates and when customers pay.

JetBlue now charges $70 for a first checked bag when travelers pay within 24 hours on peak dates. The airline raised baggage fees on November 3, 2026, ahead of Thanksgiving travel. As a result, one suitcase can add $140 to a peak-date round-trip fare.

The new fees apply to tickets bought on or after November 3, according to JetBlue’s official fee schedule. They cover standard Main and EvenMore fares within the United States and on many routes to Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean. However, passengers who booked earlier should check their original charges in Manage Trips. Some destinations and fare benefits have different rules.

The price depends on the number of suitcases, the flight date and when passengers pay. Below are JetBlue’s standard Main and EvenMore rates on covered routes. All amounts are in U.S. dollars, per person and per one-way flight.

Second bag, off-peak $70 $75
Second bag, peak $75 $85

For comparison, the advance-paid, off-peak first-bag fee rose from $39 to $50, an $11 increase of about 28%, CBS News reported. Meanwhile, the equivalent peak fee rose from $49 to $55. JetBlue told CBS the charges help offset fuel and operating costs while keeping base fares competitive.

Why one suitcase can cost $140 round trip

A passenger traveling on two peak dates who pays for one checked bag within 24 hours of each departure faces $70 each way. As a result, the total reaches $140 for that suitcase alone, before the airfare.

By contrast, prepaying more than 24 hours before both peak flights brings that bill to $110, saving $30. An off-peak round trip costs $100 with advance payment, assuming both dates qualify. JetBlue prices each leg separately.

Adding a second suitcase pushes the bill higher. During peak dates, late payment costs $70 for the first bag and $85 for the second. The combined charge is $155 each way, before any overweight or oversize fees. These examples assume no exemption.

Thanksgiving and winter flights face peak pricing

JetBlue’s peak calendar covers November 19 through November 30, 2026, including Thanksgiving. Winter peak charges return December 17 through December 31. They continue from January 1 through January 18, 2027.

Therefore, the travel date matters independently of when customers book. However, the new fee schedule applies to bookings from November 3. Customers with earlier reservations should check Manage Trips rather than assume their original charges have changed.

Who still gets a checked bag included?

Not every traveler pays the standard fees. JetBlue includes one checked bag for Mosaic 1 members and two for Mosaic levels 2 through 4. Meanwhile, eligible JetBlue Plus and Premier cardholders receive a first bag for themselves and up to three companions on the same reservation.

However, card benefits apply to eligible JetBlue-operated flights, not partner-operated or codeshare services. BlueFirst Base and Mint Base include one bag. In addition, BlueFirst, BlueFirst Flex, Mint and Mint Flex include two. JetBlue allows up to 70 pounds for those included premium-cabin bags, and some routes have additional exceptions.

For more on the new premium product, see AeroSillage’s report on JetBlue’s BlueFirst debut between Boston and Fort Lauderdale. Its inclusion rules differ from those of a standard Main ticket.

Transatlantic bag fees follow a different schedule

JetBlue uses a separate fee schedule on transatlantic flights. On Main Base and EvenMore Base, the first bag costs $80 off-peak or $90 at peak times when paid more than 24 hours ahead. Other Main and EvenMore transatlantic fares include the first bag.

A third checked bag costs $200 on standard routes within the United States, Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean. JetBlue normally limits standard checked bags to 50 pounds and 62 linear inches. Overweight or oversized luggage can incur separate charges. As a result, the domestic table should not be applied to transatlantic tickets.

How passengers can avoid the last-minute fee

The clearest saving is to add baggage through JetBlue’s Manage Trips more than 24 hours before departure. That cuts the first-bag charge by $10 off-peak or $15 on peak dates. JetBlue also allows payment with TrueBlue points before check-in, according to its official fee guide.

Before choosing the lowest advertised fare, compare the full ticket and baggage costs against fares that include checked luggage. That calculation matters on JetBlue’s recently launched nonstop routes as much as on established flights.

Finally, JetBlue says optional checked-bag fees are normally refundable only when the entire booking is canceled before scheduled departure. Travelers should consult the carrier’s terms for their reservation and any separately applicable passenger protections.
