When Will Airlines Release Flights for October 2027?
Some October 2027 flights are entering airline booking windows now, but release dates vary. Compare American, JetBlue, Delta, United, Alaska, Air Canada and Southwest.

As of October 31, 2026, some airlines already allow travelers to search dates in October 2027. Others will open their calendars later. American Airlines and JetBlue allow bookings up to 331 days ahead. Under those rolling windows, October 2027 departure dates enter the booking horizon from November 4 through December 4, 2026. Southwest has not announced when it will open October 2027. Its next planned extension, on December 10, reaches only September 29, 2027.
A date appearing on a booking calendar does not mean the airline is selling a flight on that route. Airlines may adjust schedules or add seasonal routes after the first dates become searchable. The dates below mark calculated booking horizons. They do not confirm availability or prices for individual flights.
When October 2027 flights should become available
| Airline | Reported or documented booking horizon | Calculated first opening for October 1 | Calculated first opening for October 31 | Evidence and limitation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| American Airlines | 331 days | November 4, 2026 | December 4, 2026 | American confirms the limit for bookings on its website and app. |
| JetBlue | 331 days | November 4, 2026 | December 4, 2026 | JetBlue says its schedule extends automatically each day. |
| Delta Air Lines | 331 days, indicative for ordinary tickets | November 4, 2026 | December 4, 2026 | Delta explicitly documents 331 days for award seats; different group-booking limits apply. |
| United Airlines | 337 days, reported by specialist travel sources | October 29, 2026 | November 28, 2026 | Ordinary-ticket limit not independently established from a clear United policy statement. |
| Alaska Airlines | 331 days reported for ordinary tickets; 330 days for selected Premium Class seats | November 4 or 5, 2026 | December 4 or 5, 2026 | The airline’s official 330-day FAQ concerns Premium Class, not every fare. |
| Air Canada | 355 days, documented reservation-system horizon | October 11, 2026 | November 10, 2026 | A technical reservation limit does not establish fare availability on each route. |
| Southwest Airlines | Periodic schedule extensions | Not announced | Not announced | The December 10, 2026 extension is planned only through September 29, 2027. |
All dates in this table are calendar calculations from the specified advance-booking limits, not announced route-by-route launches. Rules, schedules and published release dates can change. A return flight may enter the booking window days after the outbound flight.
American Airlines and JetBlue have confirmed 331-day windows
American Airlines’ reservations FAQ says travelers can book up to 331 days before departure on aa.com or its app. For an October 1, 2027 departure, that points to November 4, 2026. The same calculation gives December 4 for an October 31 flight.
JetBlue’s booking guidance also specifies 331 days and says flight schedules extend day by day. Its Best Fare Finder can help identify whether the desired route and dates are actually loaded. Neither policy guarantees a seat or a particular fare.
Delta, United and Alaska require a closer look at the fare type
Delta says award seats may become available 331 days before departure. Its group travel policy, however, specifies different horizons: 240 days for several regions and 331 days for others. Those documents do not establish one booking rule for every individual cash fare. Travelers can use 331 days as a planning benchmark and check the actual booking engine.
Specialist travel publications generally put United’s booking window at 337 days. On that basis, October 1, 2027 would enter the window on October 29, 2026. October 31 would follow on November 28. AeroSillage has not confirmed a United policy promising 337 days for every ordinary cash ticket. These dates remain provisional.
Alaska Airlines’ Premium Class FAQ says seats in that product can be booked on selected flights up to 330 days ahead. That specific Premium Class rule does not establish a 330-day limit for all Alaska tickets. Specialist references place standard bookings at roughly 331 days. Travelers should check the relevant cabin and route rather than assuming that a Premium Class rule governs the whole schedule.
Air Canada may show some October flights earlier
Air Canada’s documented reservation-system horizon is 355 days. By that calculation, October 1, 2027 enters the horizon on October 11, 2026. October 21 enters on October 31, and October 31 enters on November 10. The 355-day system limit does not guarantee that Air Canada is selling every route or offering every cash and award itinerary.
For Canada-U.S. trips involving airline partners, check both the airline selling the ticket and the carrier operating the flight. A flight available on one airline’s site may not appear in a partner’s award inventory.
Southwest has not yet released October 2027 flights
Southwest’s published schedule notice states that reservations currently extend through August 2, 2027. It plans to open additional dates on December 10, 2026, through September 29, 2027, subject to change. This next extension stops two days short of October 1. No October 2027 release date is established by that notice.
Southwest users should check its published release notice rather than apply the daily 331-day calculation used by American or JetBlue. Until Southwest announces its next extension, an October opening date would be speculation.
Practical examples for fall trips and round-trip tickets
| Trip example | 331-day airline: outbound | 331-day airline: return | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| October 1 to 8, 2027 | November 4, 2026 | November 11, 2026 | The outbound may appear before a complete round trip can be priced. |
| October 15 to 22, 2027 | November 18, 2026 | November 25, 2026 | Compare one-way and round-trip availability without assuming equal fares. |
| October 25 to November 3, 2027 | November 28, 2026 | December 7, 2026 | The return falls in November and opens later. |
These examples use exactly 331 calendar days before each departure, not a live fare quote. If a booking site rejects a return beyond its displayed horizon, try again when the return date enters the permitted range. Before purchasing separate one-way tickets, compare the total price and conditions.
Why a route can be missing even after the booking window opens
A published booking horizon describes how far ahead reservations may be accepted. It does not force an airline to sell every seasonal route that far in advance. A nonstop that operates only part of the year may not run on your date; a new service may still await a timetable announcement; and codeshare or partner-award inventory can differ from cash tickets.
Check the exact origin and destination, operating airline, direction of travel and travel date. If one search shows no result, look at nearby dates, confirm whether the route is seasonal, and revisit the airline’s own website. A missing search result alone does not show that a flight was canceled.
What U.S. and Canadian travelers should do before paying
- Look for your exact dates. The opening of a calendar is a cue to check, not a deadline to buy.
- Compare total costs. Check baggage, seat selection, change conditions, connections and the currency in which the transaction will be charged.
- Confirm the operating airline. A ticket marketed by one company may be flown by another, with different seat and baggage arrangements.
- Keep the itinerary confirmation. After paying, confirm that a ticket has been issued and check schedule-change notices before departure.
- Use alerts for price decisions. A flight becoming available is not proof that its first fare is the cheapest.
For the separate question of when to buy international flights for summer 2027, AeroSillage examines historical airfare patterns and price-tracking tactics. Booking strategy and schedule-release dates answer different questions. Travelers following Canada-U.S. routes can also review Air Canada and United’s announced 2027 network additions, checking the operating dates of each service.
Booking protection is different in the United States and Canada
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, for tickets purchased at least seven days before departure, airlines must offer either a 24-hour hold without payment or a 24-hour penalty-free cancellation and refund. They need not offer both. The DOT’s airline requirement does not directly cover tickets purchased through third-party travel agents. Check the agent’s policy.
In Canada, the Canadian Transportation Agency advises passengers to read the fare rules and applicable airline tariff before purchasing. A reservation is not itself a ticket: issuance follows payment. Do not assume the U.S. 24-hour airline rule applies automatically to every Canadian booking.
Start by checking whether your airline offers the route on your dates. Then compare the full itinerary, total price and fare terms. The first day a flight appears is not necessarily the best day to buy.
