Air Canada and United Add Six U.S.-Canada Routes for Summer 2027
Air Canada and United have announced six additional cross-border routes for summer 2027, linking Toronto, Montreal, Edmonton, Newark and Denver with new destinations.

Air Canada and United Airlines announced six new nonstop routes between Canada and the United States on October 16, 2026, expanding the cross-border schedules planned for summer 2027. Three will be operated by Air Canada, connecting Toronto with Louisville, Montreal with Indianapolis and Edmonton with Newark. United will add flights to St. John’s from Newark and to Ottawa and Quebec City from Denver.
The airlines also announced plans to expand their joint business agreement. That commercial arrangement requires regulatory approval, which is separate from the route announcements.
Air Canada announces Toronto, Montreal and Edmonton flights
In its October 16 announcement, Air Canada said Toronto-Louisville flights would begin April 28 and operate up to daily through October 31. Montreal-Indianapolis service is scheduled daily from June 1 through September 30. Edmonton-Newark is set to operate four times weekly from June 1 to October 17.
The Edmonton service will create a nonstop link between Alberta and the New York area. It also offers access to onward connections at Newark, one of United’s major hubs. Meanwhile, the Montreal and Toronto routes will connect travelers with Indiana and Kentucky without another airport stop.
Air Canada has published planned flight numbers AC8561 and AC8562 for the Toronto-Louisville service, AC8563 and AC8564 for Montreal-Indianapolis, and AC1562 and AC1563 for Edmonton-Newark. The published Edmonton-Newark flight departs at 6:00 a.m. Mountain Daylight Time and arrives at 12:23 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, both local times. The two-hour time-zone difference matters when planning onward connections. These are announced summer 2027 times, subject to schedule changes.
Each route has a different operating season, so travelers should verify the flight dates when making connections.
United adds Newark and Denver connections to Canada
United’s additions include seasonal Newark-St. John’s service as well as Denver flights to Ottawa and Quebec City. The partners also outlined capacity increases on existing cross-border routes, including more seats between Denver and Winnipeg and additional service between Washington and Quebec City.
For some travelers, the new nonstop services will eliminate a connection. Crossing the U.S.-Canada border still involves international entry and customs requirements. Passengers should check requirements for their destination and nationality rather than assume that crossing the border works like a domestic flight.
Expanded Air Canada and United partnership awaits approval
The two Star Alliance carriers say their transborder cooperation has produced 20 new routes since 2022. Their proposed expanded joint business arrangement is under review by Transport Canada, which opened a public consultation running from October 16 to November 15, 2026. Approval has not been granted.
In an October 16 assessment, Canada’s Competition Bureau warned that the proposed arrangement would harm competition on ten Canada-U.S. routes, potentially reducing direct rivalry. That is the regulator’s assessment of the proposed commercial agreement, not a finding that the six newly announced services have been canceled or barred.
