Boston Logan’s Braintree Remote Terminal Targets 2028 Opening
Massport has begun work on a Braintree remote terminal that will let eligible travelers check bags and clear TSA security before taking a secure bus to Boston Logan.

Massport broke ground on a remote airport terminal in Braintree, Massachusetts, on October 13, 2026, starting work on a project that could let travelers check bags and clear TSA security before riding a secure bus to Boston Logan International Airport. The facility is expected to open by the end of 2028.
The project is planned for the existing Braintree Logan Express site near South Shore Plaza. It builds on a remote screening pilot launched in June at Framingham, where passengers using participating airlines can complete airport check-in procedures before leaving for Logan.
How the Braintree remote terminal will work
Travelers will be able to bring their bags to Braintree and pass through a Transportation Security Administration checkpoint before boarding a bus for Logan. The buses are intended to take screened passengers to the secure side of the airport, avoiding a second checkpoint after arrival.
The arrangement does not remove airport security screening. It shifts the process away from the crowded airport terminals and requires the bus journey to remain secure. At the October 13 ceremony, Massport described the terminal as the first permanent facility of its kind, according to GBH News.
The new site will be part of a larger redevelopment that includes parking garages and improved passenger facilities. Massport’s planned opening is late 2028, so the new screening service is not available to travelers using Braintree Logan Express today.
Framingham gives Massport a working test
In a June 3 announcement, the TSA confirmed that the Framingham pilot opened June 1 with participating JetBlue and Delta flights. The program allows eligible travelers to complete TSA screening at the remote location before traveling to Logan.
Reports on the pilot list operating hours of 5:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a $9 adult one-way price. Those are Framingham arrangements, not a promised Braintree fare or schedule. Massport has identified Delta and JetBlue as participating airlines for the new Braintree site, according to its responses to WCVB. It has not announced a final ticket price for the permanent terminal.
Massport extended the Framingham pilot through March 2027. In its program update, the agency said the pilot welcomed its 10,000th passenger on July 28. That figure reflects Framingham participation, not projected demand at Braintree.
According to GBH, Braintree’s redevelopment also includes two eight-level parking garages. Construction will disrupt the existing Logan Express location well before the screening terminal opens.
What changes for Boston-area travelers
For people living south of Boston, the eventual Braintree site may make it possible to begin a trip closer to home without standing in Logan’s regular security line. The benefit will depend on participating airlines, available screening hours and the full time needed to reach the gate.
The existing Braintree Logan Express location is scheduled to close temporarily on November 3 for construction. Service will move to the MBTA Quincy Adams Garage at 273 Burgin Parkway in Quincy, where parking requires a reservation. The first departure from the temporary site is scheduled for 2:15 a.m.
Massport expects the new remote security terminal to open in late 2028. Travelers can check interim schedules and parking requirements on its Logan Express page.
