Ryanair brings forward bag-drop deadline to 60 minutes from November

Ryanair will close bag-drop and airport check-in services 60 minutes before scheduled departure from 10 November 2026. The change affects travellers with checked luggage.

Ryanair passengers checking bags will face a new 60-minute airport bag-drop deadline from Tuesday, November 10, 2026, the airline confirmed on October 27. The present cut-off is 40 minutes, leaving travelers 20 minutes less time to hand over luggage at airports across the carrier’s network.

The change applies to airport check-in desks as well as bag drop. It was first announced in April, but Ryanair has now issued a fresh warning as the start date approaches. The airline says around one in five passengers checks a bag; travelers who check in online and carry cabin baggage only will not face the revised bag-drop deadline.

What changes at Ryanair airports on 10 November

Under Ryanair’s 27 October notice, bags must be handed over before the desk closes an hour ahead of the scheduled take-off time. The clock relates to the flight’s published departure, not the point at which boarding begins.

For a flight scheduled to depart at 10 a.m., the new cutoff is 9 a.m. Arriving at 9:05 a.m. could mean missing the flight even if boarding has not begun. Ryanair’s conditions of carriage state that passengers who do not complete the required airport check-in before closure may be refused boarding without a refund.

The airline says the extra time between bag drop and departure is intended to help passengers get through security and passport checks. The carrier has not announced any corresponding change to airport security staffing or queue management.

Cabin-bag passengers are largely unaffected

Ryanair estimates that about 80% of its customers fly without a checked bag. They can continue checking in online and heading directly to security, subject to the airline’s usual documentation and gate rules. Passengers requiring an airport document check should still follow the instructions attached to their booking.

The airline has also been rolling out self-service bag-drop kiosks. In its April announcement, Ryanair said they would be available at more than 95% of airports in its network by October. Their presence does not extend the new 60-minute cut-off.

Passengers should allow for queues before bag drop

For families or passengers carrying heavy luggage, the practical issue is arriving early enough not merely to reach the terminal, but to finish the entire bag-drop process before closure. Travel to the airport, queues at the desks and any disruption to local transport can all eat into that margin.

  • Checked bag: Complete bag drop before the new 60-minute cutoff from November 10.
  • Cabin bag only: Check in online and follow the normal security and gate deadlines.
  • Airport document check: Follow the instructions in your booking even without a checked bag.

For other airport checkpoints, see AeroSillage’s cabin baggage security guide. It does not replace Ryanair’s own deadline.

Until 10 November, the existing 40-minute cut-off remains the airline’s published rule. From that date, passengers with hold baggage will need to build the extra 20 minutes into their journey to the airport.
