Four people were killed on September 26 when a private helicopter crashed at Sainte-Brigide-d’Iberville in Quebec’s Montérégie region, southeast of Montreal. The aircraft caught fire after the crash, and Canada’s Transportation Safety Board (TSB) deployed investigators.
What we know
The crash occurred at about 2:30 p.m. near Rang des Écossais. Quebec provincial police said all four occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. Firefighters brought the fire under control within about an hour. Initial police information described the aircraft as a private helicopter.
Authorities have not publicly established the cause. Specialist aviation databases identify the aircraft as Robinson R44 Raven I C-GARB (serial 1825), while the Canadian register links that registration to a privately operated R44 based at Sainte-Brigide-d’Iberville. This identification has not yet been presented as a formal TSB finding, and AeroSillage is not attributing any cause to the crash.
Why it matters
The TSB sent investigators to the site to gather evidence and establish the sequence of events. Quebec police are also investigating, while Transport Canada is following developments.
The crash occurred roughly 50 kilometres southeast of Montreal and involves private aviation. Investigators will seek to establish the flight sequence and identify any operational, technical, environmental or human factors supported by evidence.
What to watch
Key next steps include formal identification of the aircraft, available flight information and the TSB’s initial findings. Investigators still need to examine the aircraft, weather, flight path and operational circumstances before any probable cause can be determined. Any conclusion about a mechanical failure, pilot action or weather would be premature before investigators release evidence.
