Australia: two killed in Beechcraft Bonanza crash

Two people were killed when a Beechcraft A36 Bonanza crashed south of Brisbane, Australia, on Monday, September 7, 2026. The aircraft, registered VH-MPT, came down on a rural property at Stockleigh in the Logan area only minutes after departing Archerfield Airport.

According to initial information from Queensland Police reported by ABC News, emergency services were called shortly after 11 a.m. to Musch Road. The two occupants, a 56-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, were found dead. No injuries were reported on the ground.

A flight lasting only a few minutes

Available tracking data indicate the Beechcraft departed Archerfield at about 10:57–10:58 a.m. and remained airborne only a few minutes. FlightAware placed its final track at around 11:05 a.m., near Archerfield. Authorities said the crash occurred shortly afterwards, at about 11:10 a.m.

The aircraft was a 1979-built Beechcraft A36 Bonanza, serial number E-1456, registered VH-MPT. Australian registry data linked it to Telford Aviation Pty Ltd. No cause had been identified.

Crash sparks vegetation fire

The impact started a vegetation fire on the property. Eight Queensland Fire Department crews responded and brought it under control in roughly an hour. Nearby homes were not affected.

Police appealed for witnesses and for motorists with dashcam or video footage from the Stockleigh and Chambers Flat area to come forward.

ATSB opens an investigation

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) opened a safety investigation and deployed three investigators specialising in flight operations, maintenance and engineering. They were expected to inspect the wreckage and site, recover relevant components, analyse tracking data and collect information about the pilot, maintenance, weather, flight path and operational decisions. A preliminary report was expected in about eight weeks, while the probable cause will require the full investigation.
